Growing up, Winifred was allowed to redecorate her room every time her family moved —which happened to be almost every other year! Her mother, a creative herself, and her father, an engineer and hobby woodworker, instilled in her the joy of designing and making a beautiful, personalized home with their own two hands.
After moving away from home for college and grad school, Winifred was up to the challenge of decorating her many small apartments — usually with a bare bones budget. She loved the challenge of finding creative solutions for funky architectural features and less than stellar functionality (read: no closets, poor lighting, few windows, only 18” of kitchen counters, to name just a few!)
It was also while living abroad in Spain and Latin America that she realized the excess possessions we tend to surround ourselves with in our country, and how much simpler it is to live with less.
Winifred believes in designing an easy to maintain home you love with a nod towards the home’s history and each family’s unique vibe. She loves using antique, repurposed and vintage materials to create an eclectic, personalized home. She sees the value in reducing what we store and display in our homes in order to highlight meaningful pieces and feature what is most important to each family she works with.
She is currently restoring the 98-year-old DC rowhome she and her husband purchased, and thinking up ways she can get their kids involved in the process!
